I Love Baking!

People are often surprised that I laugh so easily. They think that because I’m surrounded by dead people I must be dark and somber. Quite the opposite is true. I’m filled with light and joy, and the dead people are a big reason for that. One thing that they have instilled in me is to appreciate my life and all of the good things that I have in this very minute. Meditation helped me learn how to be in the moment, but dead people showed me why to be in the moment. Dead People are acutely aware of how short life is and they want us to appreciate every second that we have.
Part of why to be in the moment is that’s where you find what brings you joy. I love baking as you can see by my Royal Icing Butterflies. Seeing people smile when they take a bite makes my heart happy. I also love entertaining and bravely face the stress of 20 – 30 dinner guests. I’m not a glutton for hard work; I could never do it without my husbands’ help. I enjoy reading, listening to music, watching movies and spending time with friends and family. My life isn’t idyllic; I’ve had to deal with illness and loss just like every other human being on this planet. But I’ve learned that we can’t let the pressures of life block out all of our joy. As difficult as it may be, we have to create an emotional balance in our lives and we do that with gratitude.
Dead people emphasize over and over again: Be grateful for what you have. There is no tomorrow, only now, right now, this very moment, so don’t waste it!

  1. What beautiful cupcakes! My great granddaughter and I love to bake and as soon as she your butterflies her eyes lit up!

  2. Victoria, what lovely cupcakes! I love baking, often in unusual shapes. I got some owl-shaped cupcake pans and am eager to develop a clever dessert to bake in them. Btw, I talk with spirits all the time. Very meaningful and comforting, often informative. Blessings!

  3. Love the butterflies and the story. Do you by chance work at a funeral home? I am a nurse by profession and death I knew from my clients. My journey, at least part of it lead me to be a “greeter” at a funeral home. Actually I do more than just greet. I drive the coach, some call it the hearse, the limo, the flower van. You are so right about what the dead know! Thank you for sharing.

I’m a medium. I work with people who have lost loved ones and with dead people.
I’ve had so many interesting conversations with nurses. You all seem to have an
      ‘extra’ compassion gene.

  4. Great job baking. Those are beautiful cupcakes!! So pretty. I used to decorate cakes and enjoyed it but I haven’t done it lately. I might have to try it again.
